… So then he said “Its is completely inappropriate for people to laugh!” The mans face was awash with creases and wrinkles; people would have struggled to understand the emotions that moved across their faces at that point.
The woman who was conversing flashed her eyes at a man, “Of course it is to laugh, just as to appropriate him, it is appropriate to be serious, how can a person control their emotions”.
Many in the crowd looked as if they understood her words, others just looked baffled or confused. Eventually without knowing, they seemed to reach some sort of unspoken understanding amongst themselves. Even without conscious understanding, a person, can, have a deep understanding of communications without even realising it, in addition to the meta model easier made.

the Meta Model essentially does two things when used ‘as intended’

  1. It assist stuck clients to change - Therapeutic
  2. It gets high quality information - Business / Pleasure / Therapeutic

Our NLP Practitioner course beginning in January 2008 and the current Integrity NLP Practitioner in Newcastle will uncover the Meta Model and those who are on our next Newcastle Hypnotherapy course will leave with a well grounded and practical knowledge of applying this process therapeutically.

Just listen to yourself, relating even more fully with your clients whilst still operating effectively at a process level. If you are in any therapeutic field like the many complementary therapies or thinking of taking up your calling, you could take our Newcastle hypnotherapy course - it will help your communications during therapy be better and easier and faster as something evolves between parties. Learn to develop that hypnotic voice.

One of the recurrent themes in any excellent NLP Practitioner course , or great application of therapy is to create the context for your own or your clients beneficial change. Another description for this is Reframing. Reframing is about changing how experiences are being perceived.

This clearly dovetails into the concepts of Description, Interpretation and Evaluation, three of the most important distinctions you can make, now,

One of the most thought provoking and exceptional people of the 21st century is Robert Anton Wilson. Bob Wilson has written many many books on many many varied subjects. One particularly excellent book ‘Quantum Psychology‘ gives us a wonderful example of these types of so very necessary distinctions.

The example cited comes in the form of the work of Albert Ellis. Here are two examples of less than positive and enabling statements about a persons ‘reality’. In NLP terms a seemingly impoverished model of the world, in every day language an interpretation of actuality.

  1. My boss is a male chauvinist drunk, and this is making me sick.
  2. My secretary is an incompetent, whining bitch, and I have no choice but to fire her.

By simply reformulating the verbal description, the complex equivalents and cause effects diffuse, some generalisations, distortions and deletions are alleviated BUT even more importantly the distinctions between descriptions, evaluations and interpretations become clearer.

  1. I perceive my boss as a male chauvinist drunk, and right now I do not ( or will not ) perceive or remember anything else about him, and framing my experience this way, ignoring other factors, makes me feel unwell.
  2. I perceive my secretary as an incompetent, whining bitch, and right now I do not ( or will not ) perceive or remember anything else about her, and framing my experience this way, ignoring other factors, inclines me to make the choice of firing her.

All NLP and therapy is essentially reframing. This is just yet another way to make it so.

Here is a very simple yet highly effective set of questions that are used to explore outcomes and consequences and the overall ecology of some decision.

When you or someone else is faced with making a decision, check out the effects, consequences and outcomes while exploring the overall ecology.

Here are the four questions. Ask them in the order presented.
After asking each one, ask

“and what else?”

  • What will happen if you do ‘X’
  • What wont happen if you do ‘X’
  • What will happen if you don’t do ‘X’
  • What wont happen if you don’t do ‘X’

For Example:

My friend John said just a day or two ago “I want to quit my job and do something I really enjoy”.

So I asked - “What will happen if you quit your job”
John Replied - “Feel very good, My wife will be angry, Work will be pissed off with me and I will think about doing something worthwhile.”
“And what else?”
“There will be enough money to live on so I could do some retraining”
“And what else?”
Hmmmm

So John, What wont happen if you do quit your job?
What wont happen? I wont, we wont go on holiday this year, Sarah wont get her new car and I wont renew my sports subscription
“And what else?”
I wont feel miserable doing a worthless job, I wont listen to my incompetent boss
And what else?

And so on and so forth, you get the picture. This process is about exploration with rapport. Its about asking the questions with genuine curiosity and facilitating an information gathering process.
