Choosing a hypnotherapist to assist you through a particular problem stage in your life or to assist you to improving your performance is not always the easiest thing to do.

With this in mind I have complied a list of questions you can ask that will help you to make the right decision and so get your life much more the way you want it to be.

Questions 1-4 are pretty standard and usually worth some consideration.

Question 5-8 are extremely important as this will have a big effect on you and your treatment and are a reflection of both the skill and character of the hypnotherapist you choose to help you.

The Obvious Questions

  1. What are their qualifications. I have to say not always the most important question although all registered hypnotherapists will hold some hypnotherapy qualification.
  2. Which Professional Body’s are they members of? Most hypnotherapists will be affiliated to one or more professional bodies.
  3. What is their experience. How long has the hypnotherapist been practising. Again this is not necessarily a big issue. Some people relatively new to this field are extremely skilful and conversely some who have been practising decades are still journeymen.
  4. How did you find out about them? Did you find out about them through advertising, word of mouth, blind chance. Again not massively important.

The Important Questions

  1. What is your impression of the hypnotherapist. How do you feel having talked to or met the hypnotherapist. Do they walk their talk, do you believe they can help you make the changes you require? Do you feel confident about their skills? do you say YES this persons for me, Hmmm not sure or NO WAY.
  2. What are your expectations. What specifically do you expect from seeing a hypnotherapist and are you prepared to see it through?
  3. What do they charge and how many sessions will be required?
  4. What guarantee do they offer. Is the service they perform guaranteed? If they can’t help do you pay for them to practice on you? Do you take your car to a garage, pay a large bill and find out your car is in the same state as it was before you brought it in?

Here are my answers

Qualifications
In addition to a holding a Hypnotherapy Diploma I provide certified Hypnotherapist Training in Newcastle upon Tyne. I am an NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner and provides NLP Training in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Professional Bodies
I am registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register ( GHR ) and follow their code of conduct. Communicating Excellence’s is an approved training centre with the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council providing certification for recognised Hypnotherapy Diploma. Nigel provides Hypnotherapy Supervision for therapists and is am a member of the NLP Register and The Professional Guild of NLP.

Experience
I started my own training in Hypnosis in 2000 and by 2005 was delivering Hypnotherapy Diploma Training courses. I began my own NLP training in 2001 and became an accredited trainer of NLP in 2005.

How did you find about this Hypnotherapist?
Only you know the answers to this

What is your impression of this Hypnotherapist?

Again only you can know how you feel.

Expectations
I will assist you in clarifying both your expectations and outcomes. This is important for two reasons, firstly this is how you will know you have achieved what you set out to get and secondly as I guaranteed all my work it is good to know exactly what is being guaranteed.

For example of you wish to use hypnotherapy for weight loss, coming once and hoping it is a miracle cure and expecting huge weight loss in one week is unrealistic in the extreme. Continuing with this example you may expect to notice lasting changes in your eating habits, and a safe gradual weight reduction within a minimum of three sessions.

Charges and Sessions
I charge £45 per hour. This I feel is a reasonable fee most people can afford. I have trained hypnotherapists who charge more than double this so the charge of you treatment is not related to the quality of service you receive. I will help you make your changes in the absolute minimum number of sessions.

I once attempted to book consultation rooms in a Northumberland town and the fist question I was asked was “we already have a hypnotist here and he has a very large number of return clients how many can you bring in” – clearly not a place I wish to be associated with.

Guarantees
I guarantee all my work. This means that once we are both certain you have gotten what you set out to achieve by having tested your new skills and behaviours these changes stay with you.

The ongoing improvement of your developing calibrating skills should be high, way high, on your practice list. Without calibrating skills NLP Processes are so effective they may still work, but good calibrating skills are the difference between those who operate processes with effective eyes wide shut and those who are genuinely engaged in NLP.

Our practitioner course goes much further than the vague and general ‘’see what you see and hear what you hear”. Our Newcastle NLP Practitioner and Newcastle Hypnotherapy courses are about the real application and continued development of your NLP calibration skills. So we will direct your attention to the specific things you can detect differences in.

Here is just one way to train you peripheral vision and peripheral focus and all from the comfort of your favourite settee or arm chair while watching whatever you like on the box.

While watching the television programme of you choice

  1. Pull your eyes away from the centre of the screen and
  2. Focus you eyes just past the left top corner of the TV watch for 5 minutes
  3. Focus you eyes just past the right top corner of the TV watch for 5 minutes
  4. Focus you eyes just past the right bottom corner of the TV watch for 5 minutes
  5. Focus you eyes just past the left bottom corner of the TV watch for 5 minutes

Now while you ‘rotate’ you vision around the television, alter your focus to see beyond the television and in front of the television, play around with this until the picture you are seeing with your peripheral vision is focused in your peripheral field.

If you find this too easy move a greater distance beyond the edges of the TV. IF this is currently too difficult start just a short way from the centre of the television.

Communicating Excellence
Excellence in Neuro Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy

One of the skill sets you will learn on our NLP Practitioner in Newcastle is applying NLP conversationally. This can often be just a few minutes talking. whether you are a hypnotherapist, a coach or a line manager conversational change processes are really elegant and simple and as I have said short so they can go on over coffee or tea.

The real skill being to recognise the problem presented and through gentle exploration discover where you can apply leverage to help people shift from a problem state to more resourceful ones.

I have chosen to include this example of conversation belief change as it is short and to the point.

It is surely obvious to all concerned that that old Meta Model is just about hearing some language pattern and responding in a certain way. Clearly not everyone gets this fully the second time. Evidently some people were puzzled and didn’t easily start to apply the Meta Model that they knew consciously so not so surprisingly it got put on a back shelf for a while. So get it out, dust it off and lets get on with making it more easier.

the Meta Model essentially does two things when used ‘as intended’

  1. It assist stuck clients to change – Therapeutic
  2. It gets high quality information – Business / Pleasure / Therapeutic

the Integrity NLP Practitioner in Newcastle naturally will cover the Meta Model and those who are on our Newcastle Hypnotherapy course certainly will leave with an even fuller knowledge of applying this process.

clearly if you are in any therapeutic field like the many complementary therapies or thinking of taking up your calling, you might like to consider our Newcastle hypnotherapy course, anyway it will certainly benefit you knowing a lot more about this set of verbal responses – but clearly, that’s obvious, isn’t it.

It makes me genuinely smile genuinely now when some people still visibly cringe when they hear the words ‘the Meta Model‘, Others say “its something I have to learn but I just can’t find the time” yet other say “Its just not possible to learn it allthe Meta Model really is easy.

the Meta Model essentially does two things when used ‘as intended’

  2. It gets high quality information – Business / Pleasure / Therapeutic

For me, and thanks to my friend Ian Berry for facilitating my learning during my NLP Practitioner in Newcastle, the Meta Model just made sense, It clicked, It got me absolutely hooked on what I called then NLP and I now know as applied NLP -in its current form. The Meta Model is again covered more fully on our Newcastle Hypnotherapy course and I am sure you already know like most NLP its nothing new, just repackaged. Socrates’s was, seemingly some 2500 years ago, applying the form of the meta model in purportedly just 6 questions ( so much for simplification ) – Socratic questioning. I will credit him here as he surely deserves it so it means I will.

See, all the Meta Model is is a set of specific verbal responses to a set of very specific words and phrases ‘clients’ and people in general use all the time, and its good to know them. Exactly what these are I will better describe a little later on.
